That thread runs back to Carlos d&#8217;Alcantara, a Belgian count of Spanish descent who landed in Montr\u00e9al in 1903, built greenhouses in the east end, introduced Belgian melon varieties here and later moved into flowers. His sons carried it on, each with greenhouses of his own; in 1996 Dany opened her own shop and around the turn of the 2000s took over the family stores \u2014 the name &#8220;Dames d&#8217;Alcantara&#8221; was chosen precisely to set the women apart from the men who came before.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Delivery_and_urgency\"><\/span>Delivery and urgency<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The shop points out that it was among the first to deliver right across Montr\u00e9al, the North Shore and the South Shore, and the zone has stayed wide: the island, Laval, both shores. Deliveries also run on Sunday, but only in a morning window \u2014 worth knowing when the date lands on a weekend.<\/p>\n<p>No cut-off is published for same-day orders: for something urgent you phone, explain the situation, and the workshop confirms the slot. The orchids, by contrast, are documented: they come from Qu\u00e9bec greenhouses, through a family business in Laval that has grown them for more than forty years, and the shop calls the result a &#8220;100% local&#8221; plant.
