Address: 5777 Boul. Saint-Laurent, Montréal, QC H2T 1S9, Canada

There is no sign. There are vines spilling down the façade, painted birdcages, and the smell of flowers reaching the sidewalk: in Mile End, people recognize Dragon Flowers long before they learn its name. Behind the counter, Tamey Lau has been building bouquets by hand for more than forty years — one at a time, always after asking who it is for. You cannot order here in three clicks, and that is precisely why people come.

What occasions this shop is for

The register is the personal gesture rather than the protocol: a couple’s anniversary, a new baby, a thank-you, an apology, and above all the bouquet for no reason at all, which is probably what this address does best. Nobody arrives with a catalogue code — you say who it is for, and the arrangement is built from there, often around ranunculus, the owner’s favourite, among roses and lilies.

Bridal bouquets are made too, on a small scale and by conversation, in the same handmade spirit. Sympathy flowers are part of the regular work.

And there is one more occasion, less obvious and very Montreal: the bouquet you carry to someone else in the neighbourhood. In 2013 a fire tore through the shop and the apartment above it; neighbours opened an online collection and passed their target within a single day, and the band Arcade Fire amplified the appeal, noting that Tamey had been filling their homes with flowers for years. Few Montreal businesses can claim the same.

Delivery and how fast

Same-day delivery is available, and the radius is short: roughly seven kilometres around the shop. Treat that as a characteristic rather than a flaw — Mile End, Outremont, the Plateau, Villeray, Little Italy and Rosemont fall inside it; the South Shore, Laval and the West Island do not.

Orders go by phone or message: there is no online checkout, which is consistent with a shop where every bouquet is discussed. Be ready to describe the person and the occasion rather than pick a photo. The shop opens early and stays open late, which solves a lot of last-minute situations.

In winter the short radius works in your favour: less road, and less time out in deep cold between the workbench and the recipient’s door.

What stands out

  • Over forty years, one florist. Tamey Lau came from Hong Kong, built the business to support her family, and has kept it since.
  • A façade that works as a neighbourhood landmark. Vines, painted birdcages, no signage: people describe the place before they name it.
  • Everything is built by hand, one at a time. The bouquet starts from a conversation, not a product listing.
  • The neighbourhood saved the shop after a fire. In 2013 the collection opened by neighbours passed its goal within a day.
  • It moved without leaving Mile End. After decades on one corner the shop settled a few steps away, on the artery that runs through the neighbourhood.
  • Recognized by Cult MTL readers. The city’s Best of MTL poll names it among Montreal’s best flower shops.

Where the flowers come from

Nothing is published about suppliers: this is a one-person neighbourhood shop, not a house that documents a supply chain. What is visible instead is a range that shifts with the season rather than a fixed catalogue.

The shop, the service and what else they sell

The space is small and overflowing: flowers take the window, the sidewalk and most of everything else. The service is Tamey — you explain the situation, she suggests, and a good share of customers leave with something they had not planned on. Many people afterwards recount the conversation rather than the bouquet.

Do not look for a gift aisle here, or chocolates, or balloons: the offer is concentrated on cut flowers and arrangements built on the spot. Service runs in English and French, as it does across Mile End.

When to come and how to get there

The peaks are the same as everywhere — Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, the December holidays — but in a shop where everything is assembled by hand they are felt more sharply: call the day before. The rest of the year, dropping in towards the end of the day works perfectly well.

This is Mile End, on the Outremont boundary, on the artery that crosses the neighbourhood north to south. The area is famously far from the metro: Rosemont and Laurier are the nearest stations, and most people arrive on foot or on the bus that runs up the artery.

Questions and answers

Can I order online?

No — orders go by phone or message. An older website still shows the previous address, so rely on the shop’s Instagram instead.

Is same-day delivery available?

Yes, within a radius of roughly seven kilometres around the shop.

Do they deliver to the South Shore or Laval?

No. The radius covers Mile End and the neighbouring central districts; for the suburbs you need a florist that runs the whole island.

Can I pick up myself?

Yes, and it is the most natural way to use this shop: it is open from early morning into the evening.

How do I order if I do not know what to ask for?

That is exactly the right approach here: describe the person and the occasion, and the rest is decided at the counter.

Do they make bridal bouquets?

Yes, on a small scale and after a conversation — this is not an events studio with on-site installation.

What about sympathy flowers?

A standard service; when the ceremony is close, the phone is the fastest route.

Is it really a shop you can walk into?

Yes, a street-level store with a florist behind the counter — the unsigned façade confuses newcomers, not the neighbours.
